Simply Green: BARBAR

December 14, 2009 By Beth

I was introduced to BARBAR recently. BARBAR kindly sent me a complementary Eco 8000 hair dryer.

What is BARBAR? (adapted from their About Us page)
BARBAR is based in Beverly Hills, CA and has been in operation since 2000. With over 20 years of experience as a former stylist, the company’s founder, Dominic Barbar, has applied his years of technical know-how to turn his passion into reality by creating a premium line of hair care
products that simplify the hair stylist’s job.

Why is BARBAR green and part of Simply Green? (adapted from their product page)
BARBAR is offering eco-friendly hair care products! Details on the Eco 8000 hair dryer … The Barbar ECO 8000 Blow Dryer uses the latest in technology by having an eco-friendly ceramic heating element, as opposed to all standard dryers that have a coil heating element. The difference is use of electricity & output of radiation. The ECO 8000 has 5.0 mG (milligauss) output radiation. A standard 1,800 WATT dryer has over 200.0 mG! This amount of mG is comparable to the radiation output of a microwave. The ceramic heating element lasts 5x longer than a coil heating element. The ceramic heating element uses 90% electricity, turning it into heat. No energy is wasted, but saved. The coil heating element wastes electricity because it doesn’t use it, thus turning it into radiation. Unused electricity turns into radiation! The BARBAR ECO 8000 is truly eco-friendly; everything a blow dryer should be and much more.

My thoughts about BARBAR …
I have been a drug store hair dryer girl … well forever. A hair dryer is a hair dryer, right? When I first read about the BARBER ECO 8000 hair dryer and the radiation that a “normal” hair dryer delivers, I couldn’t believe it. BARBER sent me facts to back this up though! This YouTube link shows the radiation test results from various hair dryer. Plus this link references the link between EMF output and blow dryers. Who knew? I sure didn’t as I often dry my toddler and preschoolers locks after bath time!
This hair dryer is worth the price. I find it hard to believe I am saying that but I feel like I am walking out the salon when I use it. Plus my hair doesn’t get super hot like it did with my drug store hair dryer. One of the best perks for my little girls is that it doesn’t “burn” their ears. They used to want me to cover their ears when I dried their hair but now I don’t have to juggle covering ears while drying their hair.
I admit that I am now looking forward to drying my hair and am not leaving it as a chore that leaves me flat, dry hair! Who wouldn’t want that?
Oh and check out their other products here. My sister has the BEST curls but loves to straighten her hair and I know she would love this cordless straightener!

BARBAR has offered one of my readers Eco 8000 hair dryer! This hair dryer is priced at $150!!

NOTE: I was provided with complementary Eco 8000 by BARBAR to provide this review. No other compensation was received. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I was a hairstylist before I became a stay at home mom and I've often wondered about the "dangers" I've heard about from coloring your hair can cause cancer to hair dryers can give off radiationh. I recently heard of a dryer that claims not give off any radiation and I was wondering if any of these things were true? my submission: As a mother I am very concerned about the amounts of radiation we are subjected to on a daily basis. One thing I have heard about is cell phones, and the dangers from using them and Maine is considering a disclosure on these phones now in our Legislature. Another thing that I never would have thought harmful are hair dryers. I blow dry my hair daily, as do my children. I recently heard about a hairdryer that is safe for use and thought you'd like to check it out and have it on the show. It is the BARBER ECO 8000 hair dryer located at this link: http://www.barbarhair.com/Barbar_Ceramic_ECO-PID10-MID11.aspx Please consider doing a show on this, as many people would benefit from knowing about products such as this.

I sent this to Dr. Oz
Please include a segment on your show abolut the radiation caused by hair dryers. I found it interesting that the BARBAR Eco 8000 hairdryer has 5.0 mG (milligauss) output radiation. The standard 1,800 watt hairdryer has over 200 mG. This amount of mG is comparable to the amount of radiation output of a microwave. I asked Dr. Oz to do a show on the radiation caused by hair dryers. – "I found out the other day that coil heating hair dryers cause radiation. A standard 1,800 WATT dryer has over 200.0 mG of radiation output. The BARBAR Eco 8000 hair dryer only puts out 5.0 mG of radiation. http://www.barbarhair.com/Barbar_Ceramic_ECO-PID10-MID11.aspx Please do a show about radiation and common sources that people don't know about, like hair dryers. As well as, what products to use, like the BARBAR Eco 8000 hair dryer, to decrease radiation exposure. Thank you."
