Simply Green: Marcal Small Steps

December 19, 2009 By Beth

I excited to share about Marcal Small Steps who I learned about through the coupon section in the newspaper recently! Marcal Small Steps kindly sent me a complementary sampler box of their product line.

What is Marcal Small Steps? (taken from their Our Story page)
Marcal is an “Earth-Friendly Paper Goods Company” that provides consumers like you with products that you can feel good about purchasing. For over 50 years, Marcal has been making its paper from recycled paper, not from trees. By purchasing Small Steps™ by Marcal® brand, you are taking a small, easy step to a greener earth.™

Why is Marcal Small Steps green and part of Simply Green? (taken from their Our Story page)
Marcal Paper Products LLC, the proud makers of new Small Steps™ by Marcal® brand products has been saving trees and the wildlife it supports, since 1950.
Small Steps™ by Marcal® brand products focuses squarely on the company’s green heritage. For over five decades, Marcal has been saving trees and reducing landfill by making its paper products from recycled paper. Marcal uses paper collected from curbs in residential neighborhoods in cities and towns across America; from the small blue baskets in office buildings, unwanted junk mail, and waste from printers; all in an effort to do something good… to produce something that people need. Marcal is an integral part of the northern New Jersey community. The company uses recyclables from more than 600 municipalities from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and New England. The company is one of the largest employers in New Jersey, employing over 900 people.

My thoughts about Marcal Small Steps …
I was sent a box that included Marcal Small Steps napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, and tissues! My two year old helped me open this box and claimed a roll of toilet paper. Of course, she was a tad disappointed that it was just a roll of toilet paper when she unwrapped it. I couldn’t help but laugh. We have been using the Marcal products and are really enjoying them. One of my favorite “features” of them is that they are all white. They work just as well has a regular product but you know that you are taking that “small step” to be a little green which feels great. I will note that I have had a hard time finding them in the stores. If you are having a hard time find them too then check out the store locator they have here so you can take your “small step” towards being green!

Marcal Small Steps has offered a sampler box of their products to one of my readers!

NOTE: I was provided with complementary products by Marcal Small Steps to provide this review. No other compensation was received. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I know a way to save more on toilet paper than any coupon or special. This covers all the bases = saves you money, helps the environment, helps your health, makes you feel better, it's so easy to do and it costs less than $50.00; Save money and the Earth and be clean at the same time! Add Bathroom Bidet Sprayers to all your bathrooms. I think Dr. Oz on Oprah said it best: "if you had pee or poop on your hand, you wouldn't wipe it off with paper, would you? You'd wash it off” Available at http://www.bathroomsprayers.com with these you won't even need toilet paper any more, just a towel to dry off! Don’t worry, you can still leave some out for guests and can even make it the soft stuff without feeling guilty. It's cheap and can be installed without a plumber; and runs off the same water line to your toilet. You'll probably pay for it in a few months of toilet paper savings. As for water use a drought is always a concern and must be dealt with prudently but remember the water use of industrial users far exceeds the water use of household users and in the case of toilet paper manufacture it is huge. The pollution and significant power use from that manufacturing process also contributes to global warming so switching to a hand bidet sprayer and lowering your toilet paper use is very green in multiple ways.

Time your showers and use a bucket to collect the cold water that runs while you’re waiting for your shower or bath to heat up. Your garden and plants will appreciate it (so will the fish).

[email protected] I found this tip: Use a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat allows you to predetermine temperatures for daytime and evening comfort as well as energy savings. It can save you as much as 20 percent if you opt to reduce temperatures by 5 degrees at night and 10 degrees during the day when most people are out of the house.
