Friday Favorite: Cookie Pops

April 8, 2011 By Beth Leave a Comment

Friday Favorites is another almost weekly feature here at Simply Living on a Budget. The whole point of this feature is to share some of my favorite finds. Anything is game. Food. Cleaning supplies. Kid stuff. Garden favorites. Recipes. Anything that I really like and want to randomly post about. Everything in Friday Favorites is something that I use and bought on my own.

Up this week …

Cookie Pops

Details …
What are cookie pops? Cookies on a popsicle stick. The cookie recipe used was this one from All Recipes. I did take the suggestion to add a cup of sugar and teaspoon of vanilla. The icing recipe used for the white icing is the one I posted here from Clinton St. Baking Company cookbook. The popsicle sticks I found at Walmart (in mini-baking section next to the gift wrap!) I also found the bags there but I shouldn’t have bought the tapered bags. I had to cut them all shorted to use them. That was a pain! The colored icing was the Wilton tubes of icing from Walmart. Hey, I forgot I had signed up to do these and I was so glad I cheated on that color icing come 11pm when I got to that part of the process!

Oh and you bake the cookies with the stick them. Push the stick into the cookie but not all the way through then bake. Because you do this when you bake them, you limit how many you can fit on each cookie sheet. I think I maxed out at 6 per cookie sheet.

I made cookie pops in the shapes of flowers since my sister’s bridal shower was a Spring theme. I went with all different colored flowers (OK … my girls picked out the colors!) The cookie pops were displayed in “grass”. I had a basket and then this tin bucket that I put Styrofoam blocks into. I then put this grass looking stuff over the top to cover the Styrofoam! (That grass stuff was a HUGE mess but it looked nice!)(Note: This picture was after my kids had raided the selection in this tin bucket!)

My thoughts …
Simple, huh? In concept, yes. In a time commitment, no. I now know what these suckers cost several dollars each if you buy them online!
Would I make them again? Probably. I learned to not do it all in one night and this recipe makes a TON of cookies!
I put a little saying on the back of each of them. I just taped a little piece of paper on the bag. I had to print them all and cut them out though!
It said …

We shower the bride with gifts, its true.
But this shower gift is just for you!

Amy and Jason, May 7, 2011

They got rave reviews at my sister’s shower so that made my 1am stint and almost lateness to the shower worth it. Everyone asked where they were from which always make one feel proud!
The only problem is that my Little Dude now LOVES cookies on a stick. I see cookie pops showing up at his birthday in July. I better get started on them now!;)
