  74. i kind of wing it — i pay my bills regularly and put money in savings every week but do not really budget groceries or extras

  75. We have a strict household budget for all our bills and personal spending. I do have one general category where all the unplanned expenses go into. We hope for surplus at the end of the month to carry over, but at this time we pretty much spend it down to the penny. We’re working at it though!

  91. I keep a notebook with every payday and put what bills on what paycheck are going to be paid that month every month. I keep a running balance next to the payout so I know each month how close I am to paying things off completely. If we have extra money, then it goes to an item that has the smallest payoff and when that gets paid off we apply the extra to the next smallest bill ect. ect.

  93. I use Mint.com to manage the budget. To determine our budget, every quarter my husband and I review our spending, and upcoming needs for home, medical, pets, whatever the case may be and tweak it.

  98. haha…I know I should budget, especially because my husband’s pay varies from month to month. But our finances do not work on paper, so I wing it. Not the best way, I know.

  206. I manage my finances by a budget I did when I took Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace class. I need to re-do it soon since my expenses keep going up!

  216. I use LearnVest.com to help me budget and I try and save all my receipts to go over at the end of the month to see where my money is going. I also save 20% of my monthly income.

  553. i keep a strict budget by knowing what needs to be paid on what days, i spend only what is necessary, and take very few trips or night outs. we allow ourselves to eat out once a month, and do take advantage of superpoints and swagbucks for starbucks treats.

  576. Tell us how you manage your finances- I plan ahead and save for any purchases and know how much we bring in VS how much we spend. Its a tight budget but it works.

  609. We pretty much just wing it. We do have a financial planner for my hubby’s 401k plan.

  615. I use my mental budget for the most part. However, I always look at my income vs. my outgo and make decisions based on priority. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

  622. We just are careful about our spending. We pay off our credit cards each month and carry no debt except our mortgage.

  641. We follow a budget plan that took about a year to fine tune. We also try to pay cash for everthing. Then you really know where your money is going. We also don’t use credit cards for anything except an emergancy. Doing these few things has worked well for us for the last 23 years.

  728. I hate to admit it but I kind of wing it. Maybe if my income increases, I can get myself on a budget.

  758. my husband and i separated last october. he filed for divorce, but as i am disabled, and have no income, he has to continue to pay the bills. he gives me 100$ a wk for gas and groceries and dog and cat food. no matter how well i budget, its not enough. so i buy what i can, skimp on gas when i can, and sometimes we have to go to a local food bank. when the divorce is final, i will start on my budget, i cant do much right now.

  780. I am on a strict budget. I had 2 setbacks for my debt this past year. I get paid weekly and every penny is accounted for. Any overtime I get even $2 goes straight to my debt. Im dedicated to get it paid off

  783. Honestly, I look at what bills come in throughout the month, look at how much is coming in and try to evaluate, the best I can, how and when to pay each bill. It’s not really a budget per say, but I do try to take into account how much is coming in and what I am able to do with each paycheck as it comes in. Sometimes, it does not work as well as I would like, but with my family’s income it is the best I can do, for the moment.

  796. I have a budget, but I usually spend less. I tend to be very thrifty and only buy things if I need them, or if it’s something I’ve been wanting for a long time and I find a really great deal.
