Father’s Day with The Calling Wines

June 13, 2014 By Brian 5 Comments

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Dad Central Consulting for The Calling Wines. I received a product sample and promotional item as a thank you for participating.

We have had a busy couple of weeks here.  In the past 2 weeks, I have only spent 4 days at home.  I have been driving, flying, camping, spending nights in hotels, visiting museums and attractions, and attending press events.  Stay tuned for posts with lots of photos on our adventures.

One of the best things about getting back home is having the chance to just sit back and relax.  Once the clothes are washed and suitcases are away, you can start to get back to a sense of normalcy.  After we finally get the kids into bed, we like to pour a glass of wine, kick up our heels, and just give in to the exhaustion.

The Calling Wine

This time around, we uncorked a bottle of The Calling‘s Russian River Pinot Noir.  We loved the mouthfeel, the acidity, the spice, and the lovely note of cherry.  Most of all, though, I loved reading the story behind this wine and it’s name.

Emmy Award winning sports commentator Jim Nantz and wine industry entrepreneur Peter Deutsch met randomly at dinner one evening and found that they both found success by following their callings in life.  Together, they had found a new calling, producing these quality wines.

It got me thinking more about my own calling.  When I am out taking on all of these assignments, I certainly find a calling in photography and storytelling.  However, with Father’s Day coming up this weekend, I definitely have to remember that my ultimate calling is as a father.  Whatever direction my career may take, I can’t help but see it through the lens of fatherhood.

This weekend, we will spend Father’s Day at home.  I’ll hug my kids, we’ll cook dinner together, I’ll open up the homemade cards and smile wildly as they point out each of the little drawings that they have created.  At the end of the day, I’ll take a seat on the couch, grab a glass of wine, and be happy that I am fulfilling my calling.

What is your calling?  Is it something that you live out daily?  How did you come to know your calling?  Leave us a comment and share your story.

I love a good glass of Pinot. My calling is definitely being a Mother. I love it, even on the bad days. 🙂

I don’t drink often, but sometimes you just have to unwind a bit. Especially after a long day with the kids.

We have a vineyard just outside of town that is amazing. They don’t make Pinot though. I would really like to try The Calling’s. I’ll look for it next time I am at the wine store!

    I love wine!

I’m not sure I have just one calling but i do think the core of it is to help inspire others. Not in the Richard Simmons, obvious obnoxious kind of way, but just the setting an example of a positive healthy life.
