Wonderful Winter Weather Skincare Tips from Dr. Peter Lio that we all need …

Cold and dry weather outside and forced hot air inside can put the skin at high risk for irritation. The lack of sunlight may result in lower levels of vitamin D which may be related to skin irritation as well.

  • Keep skin warm and protected when outside
  • Try a thick, protective moisturizer on any exposed skin to prevent windburn
  • Consider talking to your doctor about supplementing vitamin D during the winter months as many people are deficient
  • Consider getting a humidifier for bedrooms to help add moisture to the dry air
  • Moisturize within minutes after every shower or bath to help lock in the water

We are so excited to offer our a readers giveaway that includes full size samples of each of the products from the Neosporin Essentials line – Anti-itch Cream, Daily Moisturizing Cream, and Daily Body Wash!

Brian’s Second Half Marathon

Since Brian won’t brag for himself, I will. He completed his second half marathon on November 10th. He ran the American Family Fitness Half Marathon in Richmond. He ran this race last year too.

Here is the race in pictures.

Waiting for start …

Go Daddy, Go! …

Waiting for daddy at the middle point in the park … (Matthew was there … he just avoided all pictures that day some how!)

Daddy says Hi, Kids!!  at the middle point …

Almost at the end Daddy!! GO Daddy! Make a great finish!! …

Brian’s time was 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 8 seconds. Not bad for a busy dad of three that has been fighting injury this whole training season.

I missed the very end of the race picture since we had a hard time finding Brian at the end of the race but we did find him! Are you ready to go for a run now? Leave us a comment and let us know!

NIVEA Girlfriend Pampering Spa Party #NIVEAmoments

I was excited to be selected to host a NIVEA Girlfriend Pampering Spa Party to celebrate #NIVEAmoments. The kids and I recently helped at  community Pampering Day event for low income mothers in the area. When I saw this opportunity, I knew I would love to give back to those forty plus volunteers that made that day happen for those ladies. The volunteers need pampering too, right? So I sent out a great Evite to everyone and waited for replies to roll in to figure out what supplies I needed for the party.

I went shopping based off my RSVP list expecting three ladies for sure with five maybes. A small crowd out of the over forty volunteers but I kept the plan to host the party. We did our shopping at Sam’s Club where twin packages of NIVEA lotion are a great price.

We are at Sam’s Club weekly for shopping anyway and this week we had an overflowing buggy since were not only doing our shopping but shopping for the party.

I decided at the last minute to let my girls come with me to the party. I figured they could help set-up and enjoy the fun evening with everyone. We set up the dessert and goodie table first with the featured NIVEA lotion bottles for everyone to grab one to take home!

I loved the poof balls in the little cups as a favor and decoration combination! Here is the whole table …Then we set-up the bath salt craft table where we put the small bottles of NIVEA lotion.

I loved how the little bonus bottles fit into these “stations”.

We waited but no one came to the party. This was the first time I had no one show up to an event I have host. I was devastated to put so much into the event for no one to come but instead of mopping, I decided to let the girls enjoy the event. Of course they wanted to start with the snacks!

Then want the “craft” so they made bath salts. Sophie picked the lavender scent that we made purple. Grace picked the peppermint scent that we made pink. I did the measuring but the girls did all of the stirring and pouring into the containers. I was pleasantly surprised at how kid-friendly this “craft” idea was!I was then informed their hands were tired and red from so much work so they put the NIVEA lotion all over their hands. Can you see how excited they were to use the NIVEA lotion (also known as the “mommy lotion” in our house)?!

So while the evening didn’t go as I planned at all, the girls loved the experience and the time with me. We have supplies for a lot more bath salts so I think that will be one of our holiday gift giving crafts. Maybe we will pair it with goodie bags filled with the full size NIVEA lotion, hand soap, tissues, and manicure kits too!

Happy Havens Dyson Giveaway

Have you checked out Happy Havens? It is a great site that provides consumers with information on home products, trends and promotes wellness and a clean lifestyle.

I enjoyed read the article, Falling in love with a clean house for fall!  That included tips such as …

Be on allergy alert. Did you know 75%  of spring allergy sufferers are allergic to ragweed, a plant with yellow flowers that pollinates beginning in August through the fall? It doesn’t matter if the plant is close to you, as its spores can travel for hundreds of miles! Piles of damp leaves are also breeding grounds for mold, along with damp basements. Sometimes dust mites get stirred up in the air when turning on the heat / furnace for the first time.

Happy Havens want to introduce to everyone to their site through a Dyson DC35 Vacuum giveaway! Good luck!

Half Marathon Readiness with ACE

Details …

ACE™ Brand Reusable Cold Compress

•        Soft touch fabric contours to the body and remains flexible when cold

•        Convenient and ready to apply to skin without a cover or wrap

•        Helps relieve pain and swelling fast

•        Ideal for relieving inflammation and joint pain, and increasing circulation

•        No drippy mess from ice cubes

ACE™ Brand Deluxe Ankle Stabilizer

•        Reinforced side stays help provide rigid support and protection

•        Easy sleeve design fits comfortably in shoe

•        Adjustable closures provide custom level of support and fit

My  Thoughts …

As I am getting closer to this half-marathon, I can definitely feel my ankles starting to go.  I have some slight tendinitis going on and that can really hamper those long runs.  One way that I help to speed my recovery is to ice down my ankles and knees afterwards.  The large compress is nice because I can place it over both ankles at once, meaning less down time.

Once the ice down is complete, I still have to be able to keep everything in place when I am busy with weekend activities and chasing kids around the yard.  While I don’t wear braces like this on my runs, I find that wearing the ankle stabilizer after I ice everything down really keeps everything aligned well.  Less shifting means less severe injuries and faster recovery, meaning that I can keep up with my training runs later on in the week.

You can find the Ace Reusable Cold Compress, Large  and ACE Deluxe Ankle Stabilizer at Amazon for great prices!

Dial Champions for Kids – Donation #DialCFK

We are excited to share our donation that was part of our Dial Champions for Kids Simple Service Project! #DialCFK

About Champions for Kids …

Will you help us build a better world for kids?

No child should ever go to school hungry, cold or without the resources they need to thrive.

In America, 16.8 million children do.

Champions for Kids works to ensure all children have the resources they need to thrive. Our goal is to mobilize 20 Million people by 2020.

You can find out more about Champion for Kids by liking them on Facebook and following them on Twitter! We want to challenge YOU to participate in the Dial into Giving SIMPLE Service Project in your own community and to report it on the Champions for Kids website too. If we all chip in, we can be one of millions to help CFK meet their goal of 20 million people by 2020!

We loaded up our donating the basket to take over the church!

That basket was really heavy for two little helpers!

We are giving our donation to the Pampering Day event hosted by the church we attend. The event is put on for low income ladies (mostly mothers) in the area to have a day out to be pampered. They get an opportunity to get their hair done, nails painted, visit some stations that highlight services in the area, plus get a few clothing items from the boutique! At the end of the event, each lady is given a goodie bag full of basic hygiene items to help their family. These bags are a big highlight of the event so the collection of items from church members lasts weeks!

Grace had a plan for how she and Matthew needed to empty the basket.

The needs for the Pampering Day event are many and were happy to contribute several items on the list including soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and deodorant! Check out the Hand Washing to Help Prevent Disease Article for tips for keeping healthy this fall and winter!

The kids loved adding everything to the table and talking about helping others in our community!

Check out full shopping trip in the Google + Album we shared! Take a minute of your time to like Dial on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to keep up with their latest campaigns and promotions!

Walgreens Loyalty Card #BalanceRewards

I do have a few routines that have kept hold even with three kids and a schedule that gets busier every day. One of them is pulling out the ads of my favorite stores from the Sunday newspaper. The Walgreens ad is one of the four or five ads I pull out to go through and find all of the great sales. I have noticed in the last few ads the promotions for their new loyalty card, Balance Rewards. #BalanceRewards #Cbias But I haven’t had an opportunity to sign up yet. Here is last week’s ad sitting on my bed as I read through it finally on Saturday night.

I saw a few great sales in the add such as the NyQuil where you got 4,000 points for buying three products.

Then I saw this promotion for a product I hadn’t tried but I have been needing a new moisturizer so why not try one on a great sale?!

As I sat there reading the ad that Saturday evening, I decided to finally download the app. You can find it in the AppStore by searching for “walgreens”. Have you signed up for the Walgreens Balance Rewards program yet? The best part is that the app is FREE!

So I signed up using my Walgreens account. I had a Walgreens account already because I love their picture processing. You know they have great service when you mess up your online order and they call to ask you about it. I would say I don’t know that from experience but to be honest, I do know that from experience and was so grateful to that employee! Sign up was simple using my Walgreens account!

As I started to explore the app, I realized I could shop from the app. Shopping from the computer is something I do often. Shopping from phone is not something I do often though. I didn’t feel like driving 20 minutes to Walgreens though … especially since I just put a sick six year old to bed. Having a sick kid did confirm that we are in cold and flu season though so I knew I need to build up my stash of medications! I was game for some on the phone shopping. I was able to search for products by typing the names such as “nyquil”. I was also able to see where I would earn Balance Rewards points with a purchase like on this screen.

One way I am easily convinced to shop online is free shipping and if I spent $25 then I qualified for free shipping. My total was just over that which made me excited to get these items without leaving my house!

That screen doesn’t show it but I earned 5,500 Balance Rewards points with this shopping trip on my phone! 5,000 points = $5 so once my order arrives I will have the points credited to my account. I am excited to save up my points this month so I can purchase Halloween candy for the trick or treaters at our house and for the event at our church. What would you spend your October points on?

Check out my complete Balance Rewards enrollment process and shopping trip in my Google + Album! Keep up with the latest Balance Rewards offers and promotions by liking Walgreens on Facebook and following them on Twitter!

Dial Champions for Kids Service Project #DialCFK

I was excited to hear about the Dial into Giving campaign partnering with Champions for Kids because I love to hear how companies give back to communities. #DialCFK We are blessed that our church is very involved in our local community. Near the end of this month, they are hosting a Pampering Day for low income mothers. Part of this event is providing basic health and hygiene bags to the mothers to use for their families. When I found out about the opportunity to work with Dial on a Champions for Kids simple service project, I knew that the Pampering Day would be a perfect match!

About Champions for Kids

In America, 16.8 million children do.

Champions for Kids works to ensure all children have the resources they need to thrive. Our goal is to mobilize 20 Million people by 2020.

You can find out more about Champion for Kids by liking them on Facebook and following them on Twitter!

A simple service project is great for families because you can get your children involved. We talk to our kids a lot about sharing. Their money banks are divided into three sections with one of those sections being money they earn that they get to share. Plus sharing is one my favorite topics in the Girl Scout troop I lead. So that being said, sharing is not a new concept for our kids and it brings me such joy how excited they get when they learn we are going on a mission to share with others.

We started out with our shopping list where I wrote down not only what we needed but what was needed for the donation drive. Even though I had my list as we drove to Walmart, the kids and I talked about items that families need to keep clean and stay healthy. I am always amazed by the answers the kids give me considering our oldest is only six years old!

Our first stop on our donation list shopping effort was the soap section at Walmart where we found several Dial products. I was excited to see that Dial hand soap was on a roll back price and was the same price as the store brand! I am told this promotion is good through the end of October so stock up. I also heard there are Halloween soaps out but I didn’t see these in our Walmart the day we went shopping. I might have to head back to look for them though!

The kids told  me all about how it is good wash your hands to stay healthy as we stood in this aisle at Walmart. They also reminded me that you needed soap though and that we should get some soap to share. I learned that they like to pick soap by the package appearance more than the price, brand, or scent! With some coaching, we were able to agree on some Dial hand soap and Dial bars of soap to add to our donation!

I have no idea why Matthew has this expression in this picture. The buggy was not moving when I asked them to smile for a picture to show off our shopping but it cracks me up they were that excited about adding toothbrushes and toothpaste to our donation in the next aisle over at Walmart.

We picked up the other items we needed from our family shopping  list to finish our shopping trip. As we were getting ready to check out, the kids then decided they would count everything we bought for our donation as we put everything up on the conveyer belt. I guess they were reminding me once again that there are learning lessons every where!

I added our Walmart bags to our full trunk. It had been a long errand day for me and the kids. The kids were perfect that day considering Walmart was our last stop after going to a Children’s Consignment Sale (the laundry basket … it isn’t dirty clothes, I promise!), Michael’s for Girl Scout craft supplies, and then lunch.

The ride home the girls continued to ask about who would get our donation and when we were taking it to the church to add to the box set up there. Little man faded into a nice nap as the conversation continued and I realized how blessed I am not only with my own family but with the opportunity to share the experience of a simple service project with my kids.

Aquaphor for Beauty and Babies

 Details …

Aquaphor Healing Ointment  is a dermatologist and pediatrician trusted product that helps protect and relieve dry, cracked skin. It provides effective soothing relief for dry skin and its mild formula is safe for external use on your baby’s delicate, sensitive skin.
Aquaphor Baby Gentle Wash & Shampoo is a pediatrician-recommended cleanser that gently cleanses both skin and hair. Enriched with soothing chamomile and provitamin B5, the tear-free formula is specially designed and clinically proven to be mild enough for baby’s sensitive skin.

Our Thoughts …

I have been a fan of Aquaphor Healing Ointment for years. I used it often on my hands, elbows, and feet. It really helps dry, cracked, raw skin feel good again. I love that works so fast and it feels so nice when it goes on wherever I need it! My favorite winter use it to put the Aquaphor Healing Oinment on my feet and then put on my fuzzy socks to go to sleep. When I wake  up, my feet always feel so much better.

We have been using baby shampoo for over six years at this house but have never tried Aquaphor Baby Gentle Wash & Shampoo. I let little man try this first and I knew it was it a success when he didn’t scream as I washed out his hair. He always uses the shampoo to wash his body anyway so it works out perfect that is a wash and a shampoo. The girls both gave this shampoo a try too and loved that it didn’t hurt their eyes like their cheap girlie shampoo they had to get at the store one day. Sure the bottle is cute but oh do they scream and dance when it gets int their eyes as they take showers! I love tear free bath and shower times so this will be a well loved bottle in our bathroom for awhile!

Have you tried either the Aquaphor Healing Ointment or Aquaphor Baby Gentle Wash & Shampoo? We are excited to give one of our readers a chance to receive both of these products PLUS the Baby Healing Ointment and a $50 Visa Gift Card! Good Luck in the giveaway!
