The easiest way to earn points was sync my FitBit with the Steps with Balance Rewards. It updates my steps for me and I honestly just have to remember to wear my FitBit which is its own daily challenge. I also earned points by entering my weight daily. The daily update is something that became more routine the more I did it but I still didn’t forget.

I decided to check out some healthy living options at Walgreens when I went shopping with Little Man. He was very excited to help pick out juice. I picked out my favorite White Grape Juice and he picked out Apple Juice.

The signs around the store give great reminders on how to earn points. Beth has generally redeemed points when we hit 5,000 points but I think we will try to save them up based on this sign!

Shopping with a three year old can make for an interesting trip. We focused on juice and healthy drinks. The cereal is a great option to get whole grains in our kids diets even it is the flavors we pick more than the ones that we pick. As for the dinosaurs, little man was sad he was missing a baby T-Rex so he was excited to find this package of little dinosaurs.

How are we doing in points? We added 2,000 points for buying the juice this trip!

My Balance Rewards Activity

The Steps with Balance Rewards is adding to our Balance Rewards. Since I am already using the FitBit, it is great to earn the extra Balance Rewards points. Plus as I keep track of my weight, I now have a record of where I am on my mission to lose a few more pounds this summer.

This is my last check-in for week 8. I have slacked on Gunnar’s workouts and the diary for sure. Once I started missing the workouts, it was easy to keep missing them. That was bad. I was still watching my food though which was a big plus to me. So Sunday is the end of challenge. In 8 weeks, I am down 4 lbs. That isn’t much but I am happy to be down and know that even if I keep up this slow pace, I will keep working towards my goal of a slimmer me!

My Week 7 Check-in

This is my non-check-in check-in for week 7. I have been a lot of excuses lately but this last week was interesting. My workouts have been in the yard moving a tree that the storm took down. Brian has been doing the major lifting by with it being 100 + degrees, I have been helping as much as I can when I am at home. I have done OK watching what I eat … heck, I sent the pan of brownies to church with Brian last night so they didn’t sit in my kitchen. I totally forgot to weigh-in this week. I will get all of my final numbers to post next week though. Maybe this week I can do some indoor workouts since that tree is now all piled up waiting to dry up and be burned later in the fall!

My Week 6 Check-in

So this week has been interesting. My class has left me very frustrated so I took a break from my routines. My exercise became working in the flower garden. I learner I have muscles in my upper legs and shoulders that I had forgotten I have had. I did watch what I ate but I didn’t focus on putting it in the diary. I know I ate a few too many zucchini brownies by convincing myself the zucchini part outweighed the brownie part. Haha At any rate, I am down 0.2 pounds from last week which is still up from two weeks ago but a step in the direction!  Seeing how I did this week, I am pleased though. My goals for next week are to get my head back in the game and to not eat too much on the 4th of July!

My Week 5 Check-in

Since my Week 4 Check-in, I am up 1 pound. I know that is mostly from yesterday is the said part. Anyway, this week hasn’t been a success for me. My time management has flown out the window and I haven’t had a chance to work out much. While I also was horrible at recording what I ate this week I was mentally tracking it throughout the day which is a HUGE success for me! I am excited that I am learning to watch what I eat through calorie counting. As for yesterday, it was a comfort dinner day as my class as become the biggest frustration yet in my graduate class time. Brian suggested dinner out and I went with it as my head and body needed a break and an escape from what seems be this homework treadmill. It was worth it but you know what, I know it was an exception and not an every day event which is also a change in thinking. So while the scale isn’t showing results this week, I feel like I am getting to where I want to be and that is a big success for me!

My Week 4 Check-in

Since my Week 3Check-in, I have missed too many work outs. I was helping at Girl Scout camp this week and figured I would have more time to get on track and boy was I wrong. I had no time and I was so tired at night it was just nuts. I am thrilled to say I am down a total of 4.8 pounds. So that is 0.8 pounds from my low two weeks ago but 1.8 pounds down from last week when I went up! YAY! I was really careful in watching what I ate this week and I think that paid off for me! Next week is a homework heavy week for me so I am hoping to make sure I get more of the workouts in while I am watching what I eat.

My Week 3 Check-in

Since my Week 2 Check-in, I have missed two work outs. Week three was a hard time management week for me. I really wanted to cave on all work outs to get in 4 out of the 6 planned was really good for me. I know I can do better so I am hoping to get them all in this week. I am up 0.4 lbs which really isn’t bad since I did enjoy a few treats but I was really watching the calories I ate and said no to a lot of food I would normally grab and go. I have noticed the days where I jump my water intake up, I feel so much better so I will be working on that next week too.

Next week will have its own challenges as I am helping at the Girl Scout day camp. My time management will be even more key and I need to remember to drink water being outside that long too. Oh and to stay away from the sugar and calorie loaded snacks that will be around. I think apples will be my friend next week! We will see where all of that gets me and hopefully by then I will be back on track with my summer class homework schedule too.!

My Week 2 Check-in

Since my Week 1 Check-in, I have missed only one workout and that was last night. Life here doesn’t seem to be in my control some days and that was a day where I let something go! My workout went when I was trying to finish my graduate class homework. I am down a total of 4 lbs in 10 days which is really nice to report. I feel like I am in control of what I am doing and that is good news. I even watched myself at the work pot-luck luncheon today! Boy, that was hard. (I had one sweet just because but better than the sampling I love to do!)
I am hoping that I can catch up my to-do list some this weekend and get life back in control for next week. I will feel better if I know I am in control again!

My Week 1 Check-in

I still wonder if when I signed up to join the Gunnar Challenge was a brilliant moment or a moment where I lost my mind. I am hoping over the next 7.5 weeks I prove to myself that it is was a brilliant moment. After running last summer, I spent the winter sitting inside. I was happy inside where it was warm. I admit it. I also enjoy the cookies and treats and well everything else I pulled out of the oven this past fall and winter. The vegan/vegetarian eating plan the beginning of the year helped me check what I was eating but I still wasn’t moving. Part of the 10 lbs I lost then crept back on in the months since then so now probably as good as a time as any to work on this weight loss.

I have managed to do all 4 of the workouts so far (this challenge started on Monday). I am down 2.2 lbs in 4 days. I am for the first time ever learning to count calories and think about how many calories is in something before I eat it. This is probably the biggest change for me. Even last week, if I wanted something, I would just eat it but now I am figuring out how it fits in my daily calorie count. The best part of that is that I am not starving. Sure there are times I am hungry and I would love to have one of those cookies but you know it just isn’t worth it to have that cookie … not right now. I know I am pretty good at maintaining a weight so I need to take a break from those cookies until I get down to a good maintaining weight. That doesn’t mean I won’t eat them or I won’t bake them … heck I had ice cream last night. But I stood there and measured out the ice cream into a measuring cup before I ate (and then I was lazy and ate it out of the measuring cup … hey, why wash two the measuring cup and a bowl, right?!) So I am on day five and hoping to make it through even with my work schedule and crazy summer school class.
