Reminder/Disclaimer/Whatever: Everything in Friday Favorites is something that we use and bought on our own.

Description …

  • Instant access to thousands of Kindle Books

Our Thoughts …

I decided this was today’s Friday Favorite when someone asked if it was easy to cancel Amazon Prime after the trial. My reply was yes, but you won’t. It is one click to cancel if you want to know but you won’t cancel if you are like us. I ended up getting Amazon Prime membership two years ago and there is no going back. I love it. This is part of my Budget of Convenience. It is worth the fee to cover the shipping for the year and you bet I use my fair share (plus other people’s!) One of my favorite purchases recently was for a Christmas gift my sister gave us. She gave us a plate that had the kids hand prints on it. I didn’t even think about going to Walmart or Target, I just went on Amazon and found a plate hanger I could use and two days later my $3 plate holder was at my door. Love.

We haven’t even explored the streaming movies and books that are part of Amazon Prime … maybe one day.

Do you have Amazon Prime membership? What is your favorite feature of it? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Back in the Day: College Textbooks

You know how your mom and dad tell you they walked up hill both ways … in the snow … when going to school? Yeah. That probably didn’t happen (I hope it didn’t because that wouldn’t be cool for sure!)

A real story is going to the “good” bookstore in a college town (there is always a good one and a not so good one!) Once you get there, you are fighting the crowds to find your list of books or find empty shelves. Being thrifty, used books were always bought when possible. The only new books I ever bought were when the professor put out a new edition … probably so they could get paid more for more books being bought. (I think they did that on purpose!) Once I had my mound of heavy engineering books I would have to wait in the super long line to buy them. Ever wait in the bookstore line with your mom … and dad … and little brother … and your little sister?! ummm, yeah. Mom and dad bought my books so I had to the line wait if I wanted them to buy them … I wasn’t passing up the offer for them to pay (it was part of the deal we had on who paid for what when I was in college) so I waited. My mom must have been so sick of those lines after three kids!

Now the real excitement was selling my books back. I would rush to take my mound of books back to the bookstore before the semester ended and I left campus. There was never a good time for this. I was generally packing to leave campus but I wanted the cash when I sold back my books so I had to make time!! Selling back books is a great budget saver … my fall semester sell back money was always my Christmas gift fund.;)

Now that I take classes online, I have been buying textbooks online. I find it to be a challenge to find the books I need at times. I want to be cheap … errr, thrifty and budget-minded and buy used books. I want to make sure it is a book that isn’t missing pages or drawn in by a two year old. My two year sees paper as paper and will draw on anything he finds … anything. Thank you little dude for a pretty picture on my homework. <Insert forced smile here.> When you can’t see a used book, it is hard to buy a used book so I have limited where I search and leaves thrifty me wanting more options!

That is all about to change though since I have learned about eCampus.com. They sell new and used books PLUS they buy books back! I need to take my own advice from undergraduate years and try to sell back some books that are collecting dust from graduate class. I don’t have a bookstore to sell them back to so they have just sat there after each semester. Maybe I will be singing a nice little Christmas gift fund this year after all! ;)

Disclosure: This post has been brought to you eCampus.com.

Black Friday Tips Giveaway

In case you are hiding under a rock, Black Friday is coming up!  We asked in 2009, What is your Black Friday plan of attack? In that post, I offered up one of my favorite Black Friday tips.

My favorite tip … take some food with you. You will get hungry and you will over spend on coffee from Starbucks or bottle water and candy at the Best Buy line. Shove some candy in your pocket and a bottle of water in your bag and then head out on Black Friday.

The most obvious tip is to plan your trip out! Use the Black Friday ads … I go for both the online early released ones and the day of ones because I love the real ads! You might also check out this Black Friday Preparedness Guide!

We are excited to offer our a readers a $50 gift card to do some online Black Friday shopping! You can pick from iTunes, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy or Target!

Flirty Apron Under $10 Sale

Maybe you caught on that I love Flirty Aprons from either my Flirty Apron post or maybe it is that new button on the sidebar. I am excited to start sharing some of the Flirty Apron sales with you.

Here is the first …

Flirty aprons go through rigorous quality inspection – most flaws are minimal and difficult to notice. The normal irregularities include: restitching, loose seams and minor print flaws. But this one is a bit different, instead of two layers of high quality Grade A fabric, the manufacturer only sent one layer aprons. So they are selling them for $9.95. No coupon code needed! The sale on the Single Layer Sassy Black Aprons goes from 8/30 – 9/5.

Single Layer Sassy Black Apron

Remember this is only while supplies last so get started on your holiday gift list (or your holiday baking wardrobe … that is when I live in my aprons!)
