My Thoughts …

I bought this Cool Gear Insulated Tumbler at Walmart recently. I really love the straw in this cup as I have had a few that have broken due to whatever they are made out of … this one is made out something else which is great! I love that I don’t need ice in the cup … if I remember to put it in the freezer. That is on me though!

Description …

  • High quality, nonstick paper that is ovenproof up to 420 degrees
  • Excellent for baking cookies, cakes, breads, pizza, fish or chicken en papillote, and making candy or frozen desserts
  • Works great when used to cover foods in the microwave oven
  • Professional bakers and cooks have been using it for years

My Thoughts …

I have Brian to thank for introducing me to parchment paper. It wasn’t something that my mom ever had at her house … OK, I still don’t think she has it at her house. Brian loves the brown unbleached parchment paper. I am always out for a bargain though and found Reynolds Parchment Paper thanks to  coupons  awhile back. I like to save the coupons for the Super Double Sale at Harris Teeter and really save on this new to me kitchen staple! It doesn’t go bad so I can two boxes and toss in it the drawer!

Why do I really love parchment paper? Well besides it makes your cookies cook all nice and even … it saves on clean up. I always have dish duty here and any trick I can find to save me time in that area, I love. If you want to see how those cookies turned out, see the Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe from 4 Ingredients Gluten-Free post!

Strawberry Shortcake Magazine

Details …

Join Strawberry Shortcake and all her friends in her super, fun-filled magazine. Each issue is packed with stories, puzzles, games and educational activities that are designed to encourage the skills needed to succeed in school while having fun with their favorite ‘Berry’ friends. Published 8 times a year for girls 3 to 8.

Our Thoughts …

That picture explains it all, doesn’t it?! Brian picked up this magazine last week when I was sick with strep. He had taken the girls grocery shopping and they saw these at the grocery store. Brian splurged. I have to save that is the one of the best impulse buys ever. Those magazines kept the girls so quiet. Oh my goodness! They worked TOGETHER on them and really loved the activities in there. Plus there are stickers which makes it even better.

After a little looking online, you can subscribe to these magazines! I think this going on Grace’s birthday list for as family member gift idea. She will be so excited and it will be great to have gift that keeps showing up in the mail for her. Plus the added peace while she works on it will be priceless!

You can find the Strawberry Shortcake Magazine subscription on Amazon for a great price!

I want to add that we were lucky enough to get a visit in our email from the Fairy Hobmother! You might have seen other bloggers mention this when talking about www.appliancesonline.co.uk. It was a great surprise in our inbox this week for sure!

Friday Favorite: Grape Nuts

Friday Favorites is another almost weekly feature here at Simply Budgeted. The whole point of this feature is to share some of our favorite finds. Anything is game. Food. Cleaning supplies. Kid stuff. Garden favorites. Recipes. Anything that I really like and want to randomly post about.

Reminder/Disclaimer/Whatever: Everything in Friday Favorites is something that we use and bought on our own.

Description …

Post Grape-Nuts is a 100% natural cereal made from natural whole-grain wheat with barley. Delicious whole-grain foods like Post Grape-Nuts (with 52g whole grain per serving)* provide naturally-occurring fiber (7g per serving) and nutrients that you need every day. But what truly makes this cereal unique? It’s the naturally-sweet, unique crunch baked into each and every one of those tiny nuggets!

Our Thoughts …

This is probably a lame Friday Favorite in many’s opinion but Grape Nuts are a staple at our house. Two of our three kids will fight me for my bowl of Grape Nuts if they see I have one. The other kiddo enjoys them but doesn’t run up and try to steal my spoon!

Now we always eat our Grape Nuts warm. You can add water and “cook” them in the microwave or add boiling water and just stir. Oh and I love to add a dash of brown sugar too.

Coupons and sales for Grape Nuts are super rare so this one of the few items I buy at Walmart on a regular basis. The Post Grape Nuts website actually has several recipes that use Grape Nuts so I will have to add these to my ever growing recipes to try list!

Friday Favorite: Angel Food Cake Mix … again!

Description …

Ingredients
Sugar, Enriched Bleached Wheat Flour [Flour, Niacin (A B Vitamin), Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Folic Acid], Wheat Starch, Egg Whites, Leavening (Monocalcium Phosphate, Baking Soda, Cream of Tartar), and Corn Starch. Contains 2 Percent or less of: Natural and Artificial Flavors and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

My Thoughts …

I first listed this as a Friday Favorite last year. I still love it. I knew we had strawberries at the house and Brian had mentioned making a dessert but I knew he had a busy day and that didn’t happen. On my quick dash through Walmart, I decided grab something to make with the strawberries. The already made angel food cakes were $4/cake. This cake mix was about $2.50. All that you add to this cake mix is WATER. That is it. If you haven’t tried this cake mix yet, you must. It seriously is one of the best cheats out there plus you save money just mixing and baking this on your own!

Here is my proof …

Friday Favorite: Amazon Prime

Description …

  • Free Two Day Shipping
  • Instant Streaming of movies and TV shows
  • Instant access to thousands of Kindle Books

Our Thoughts …

I decided this was today’s Friday Favorite when someone asked if it was easy to cancel Amazon Prime after the trial. My reply was yes, but you won’t. It is one click to cancel if you want to know but you won’t cancel if you are like us. I ended up getting Amazon Prime membership two years ago and there is no going back. I love it. This is part of my Budget of Convenience. It is worth the fee to cover the shipping for the year and you bet I use my fair share (plus other people’s!) One of my favorite purchases recently was for a Christmas gift my sister gave us. She gave us a plate that had the kids hand prints on it. I didn’t even think about going to Walmart or Target, I just went on Amazon and found a plate hanger I could use and two days later my $3 plate holder was at my door. Love.

We haven’t even explored the streaming movies and books that are part of Amazon Prime … maybe one day.

Friday Favorite: Keurig Platinum Plus

  • Removable 60 oz. water reservoir, Rinse Cycle, Hot Water Dispense
  • Quiet-Brew Technology®
  • Energy Savings Mode – Auto On/Off

Our Thoughts …

I bought the Keurig as Brian’s Anniversary/Valentine’s Day present. He combines presents for me so why can’t I for him? Plus if it is a gift I can use too … all the better!

I picked the Platinum Plus model because the reviews noted it wasn’t as loud. We love the five cup sizes offered in this model. I love that I can get a cup of hot water in an instant and not wait for the tea kettle. We have the Keurig timer set so it turns on and turns off on its own. I can also rinse the k-cup area for when Brian makes coffee and I don’t want it in my tea!

Brian loves his coffee from the Keurig as I don’t drink coffee and he hated making even half a pot of coffee to drink on his own. Now he can make a small cup or a large cup and just be done with it.

I waited so long to buy on of these because I was worried we wouldn’t keep using it but seeing how our use is still going to strong, we are excited to be a Keurig family!

Friday Favorite: Carnation Lemon Bread Kit

Friday Favorites is another almost weekly feature here at Simply Budgeted. The whole point of this feature is to share some of our favorite finds. Anything is game. Food. Cleaning supplies. Kid stuff. Garden favorites. Recipes. Anything that I really like and want to randomly post about.

Reminder/Disclaimer/Whatever: Everything in Friday Favorites is something that we use and bought on our own.

Details …

Kit Includes: 1 Carnation Evaporated Milk; 1 bread mix; 1 lemon glaze. Naturally flavored. With lemon zest glaze. Made with real lemon zest. For bread or muffins. Makes 1 loaf or 12 muffins. Just add eggs, oil and water. No preservatives. No artificial flavors. No artificial colors. 0 g trans fat per serving. It’s good to know. Did you know Carnation Evaporated Milk is fresh, nutritious milk from which half the water has been removed. This special concentration of milk helps baked goods retain their tenderness and moistness.

Our Thoughts …

Ta-da!

I bought this kit on a whim one weeknight when I ran into Walmart for cheese on my way home from work for dinner that night. This mix was less than $3 and I was at home the next day with Sophie and Matthew. I knew Sophie would love baking with me and this would make that task easy.

Sophie (4 years old) did love making this. You only need a spoon to stir it so she was all over that. The one note I have is that takes almost an hour to bake so don’t think it is exactly like a cake mix and will be out of the oven in half an hour!  So just plan ahead when you make this treat. It is super yummy and more like a dessert than a sweet bread so maybe you should save it for after dinner like we did.

I hope you can find this at a grocery store near you soon to try.

Have you tried this mix before? Leave me a comment and let me know. Do you have another mix that we should? I would love to hear about it as I love to cheat in the kitchen!

Duracell Value Charger With 4AA Pre Charged Rechargeable Batteries

 Details …

  • Charges 4 AA or AAA batteries
  • LED to indicate charge status
  • Compact size is great for travel
  • Plugs directly into the wall – no cords
  • Comes with 4AA Pre Charged rechargeable batteries

Our Thoughts …

We love these batteries. We bought this set when we got our new camera. My old camera had a battery pack that charged so using regular batteries in the camera was a big switch. The camera eats batteries faster than the kids’ toys so we switched to these. That switch has been one of the best budget decisions we have made recently! We always buy batteries on sale but even then they add up … plus there is so much waste. The charge on these batteries is really great and they last nicely in our camera. So if your camera or kids toys eat batteries, you might switch to these and save yourself in your batter expenses!!

This a great deal on Amazon right now for $13.21 with Amazon Prime PLUS there is a $1.50 off coupon!!

Sleep Pretty In Pink Women’s Sleep Mask and Travel Case

Details …

For an extraordinary night of sleep enjoy our sleep pretty in Pink women’s sleep mask. This unique sleep mask uses a contoured “eyelash free” design to create a total blackout experience. In addition to the adjustable strap for custom fit, the sleep pretty in Pink women’s sleep mask comes with a drawstring travel bag and a free pair of sleep pretty in Pink earplugs. Sleep better. Sleep in Pink tonight.

 My Thoughts …

I remember making serious fun of my sister for using a sleeping mask. oops! I realized a few weeks ago I was propping the pillows on the bed up to hide the light from the TV Brian was watching or Brian’s lamp as he was reading. So I went Amazon shopping for a sleeping mask. This one caught my eye because the reviews said it had room for your eyes to open and close due to its shape. It was a great price at $7.14 too. So I ordered it. It came and I tried it not thinking it would help but it was worth a try. I was asleep instantly. It does slide off my head because the strap doesn’t get any smaller. I would need to add more velcro if I wanted to make it smaller. I am not worried about that because once I am asleep I am asleep. It was the getting to sleep part that as getting hard for me.

Go check this out on Amazon and fall asleep faster like me!
